What Is Content Writing?
Every website or blog on the internet has content.
And content writing is the process of writing content. Usually, we’re talking about websites when we say content writing, however, in some cases, the term could also refer to social media accounts.
Why Is It Important?
The reason it’s important is that content is what our visitors see. This means if we want them to visit us again later, or purchase from us, we need to:
- Make a good impression
- Make it clear what we want them to do
- Write in a way that search engines and humans understand
For these reasons, writing high-quality content is essential for any website.
However, the problem with a lot of websites is that their content doesn’t fit all of the criteria. Some write high-quality articles that search engines find hard to understand, while some websites just have bad-quality content in general.
Throughout the rest of this article, we’re going to guide you through writing high-quality content that isn’t just readable for humans but also search engines.
Content builds relationships. Relationships are built on trust. Trust drives revenue.”
How To Write Content That Gains Organic Traffic
Here are the steps to writing content that gains organic traffic:
- Keyword Research
- Analyse The Intent
- Analyse The Competition
- Write Something better
This is the process you should take for writing content that you want to rank in search engines. Below, we’ve explained every step of the process to help you through it.
1. Keyword Research
The first step is to research your keyword. For this, you can use a range of tools such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Mangools. The choice is yours, but you’ll want to identify all the keywords that you want your piece of content to rank for.
If you’re a beginner, we recommend taking one main keyword per page, as that will make it easier.
2. Analyse The Intent
From there, you will want to analyse the intent of the keyword.
This will allow you to craft an outline that contains all the headings and topics that your piece of content should cover.
The main question of this section is: “What does the user want to achieve by searching for this term?”
Now your job when writing content is to satisfy that term better than anyone else has.
For example, if the user’s intent is to get some information then your article should be giving the user exactly that. Likewise, if they are searching for a commercial term, your article should also satisfy that intent. It always depends on the keyword.
3. Analyse The Competition
You’ll also want to take a look at what the competition has created for that particular keyword.
Do a quick Google search and take a look at all of the pages ranking on the first page. Analyse their word count, keyword density, common headings, and anything else in common about these pages. From here, you can simply take note of them and make sure to do the same when writing your content.
This will make your piece of content much more likely to rank, as you have something similar to what’s already on the first page.
4. Create Something Better
Now, once you have analysed the intent and competition of the keyword, your job is to create something better.
What we mean by better is something that satisfies the overall intent more than any other result on the first page. And, also better optimised, this is where the previous steps fall in. For example, if the intent of the keyword is extremely informational, you can consider writing a longer article which may satisfy the intent better.
But, make sure to keep in mind the competition analysis and adjust your article accordingly. Once you have an article that is better than the competition’s, you’ll be much more likely to rank.
Other Content Writing Tips
We also wanted to give you some other content writing tips that should help you write better content.
Formatting is essential as badly formatted content will not be read by most of your visitors. If you’re trying to use your content to generate sales or leads, this is a big problem. And even if you aren’t, you probably don’t want your visitors leaving without hearing what you have to say.
That’s why we recommend putting lots of effort into the formatting of your article. This means, leave lots of white spaces between your paragraphs to make them easier readable, and break up large walls of text using images.
2. Stay Consistent In The Tone
Another tip we have is to stay consistent in the voice or tone.
You don’t always have to have the same person writing the content, but you should try to stick to the same type of tone. Otherwise, your visitors may click through the website, and suddenly feel quite confused as they identify with the voice of one article, but not with the voice of another.
This can cause a disconnect in the customer journey and can cost you conversions.
3. Put Lots of Effort Into The Headline/Title
Our final tip is to put lots of effort into the headline. If you don’t do this, your article could get significantly less traffic, as people aren’t clicking on it.
If you write a killer article, but the headline looks bad, most people will never see your amazing article.
Content is the reason search began in the first place.”
